Field Notes

Description:

European species of hard-bodied tick. Ixodes ricinus has no eyes nor festoons and is not ornate. A parasite that usually feeds on mammals it has a three-host lifecycle, which takes abaout 2-3 years.
Among other diseases transmitted by ticks, one of the most common is the Lyme disease caused by bacteria belonging to the genus borellia.

Habitat:

Often on grasses.

Notes:

The 1st and 2nd picture show a tick after feeding on my dog. The 3rd picture show anothe individuum of the same species before it could finish its feast.
