Field Notes

Description:

Darth Vader!?! About 3inches from wing tip to tip of antenae. Beautiful pronounced patterns in gray and black. Intricate "medallion" patterns on head and neck. Wings edges with elaborate pattern.

Habitat:

We are near the river. I only see these in the morning if the outdoor light is left on.

gobospring, I noticed you have another spotting with just a close up of the dobsonfly. It would be best if you grouped them all into one spotting. You can add 5 photos per spottings. Thanks. I also saw one of these dobsonflies and had no idea what it was. I got it ID'd on Noah as well.

Oh, silly me. It's a Dobsonfly, the closest relative of a Fishfly, which has those large tusk-like things.
