Thanks for the hint, Dan. Looks like this the Allium 'Mont Blanc' variety. Another mystery solved.
This is the same as your purple flowering onion, except it's a white flowered variety. I've actually never seen one of these before but the shape and size of the flowers and overall flower head told me it was Allium. 'White Giant' seems to be a popular variety.
