Hi Josephine and welcome to the project. If this thingy is some lepidopteran caterpillar then it's really weird for it to be on a beach unless there were plants very very close by. At this stage of life that's what they all do... eat plants or pupate. It would not make any sense, therefore, that it would camouflage itself like a beach stick :-) I know that beach fairly well.. could there have been she-oaks nearby? It's amazing how much one can learn in here... hope you enjoy it.
Thanks mark. I'm new to this project Noah but will try and find out about it. It was a little caterpillar that camouflaged itself amoungst the sticks on the beach when we looked at it. It then looked like a piece of drift wood. Very clever!
Hard to tell but it might be some cutworm or armyworm larva. (Noctuidae caterpillar?)
