Christiane - It is great to see that you consider insects to be animals!
That's what websites like this do best - To open users' eyes to the beauty, variety and conservations need of invertebrates. Remember that wonderful phrase: "The little things that run the world."
If humans were to disappear tomorrow, the world would not blink but if all invertebrates were to disappear tomorrow, then the world's ecosystems would indeed stop.

Hi All,
This beetle belongs to the Jewel beetle family Buprestidae and the genus / species is Stigmodera roei. Western Australia is where these show off beetles abound in their glory.
Here is a link to images of other species belonging to Stigmodera.

By the way, here is a link to show what the Spider beetles (Ptinus lspp.) look like. And, just to make things more difficult, the well known Ptinus tectus name has now been synonymised with Ptinus ocellus!
