I would talk to your veterinarian about flea and tick prevention. As far as the eggs go, I don't know if there is a way to tell if she has laid them but she will die afterwards. Here is some info: http://bugguide.net/node/view/91218 http://tickencounter.org/tick_identification http://www.cdc.gov/ticks/life_cycle_and_hosts.html
Thats what i thought it was! Darn it! We have two dogs and live in the mountains. Do you think she already laid the eggs? Is there a way to tell? What is the best flea and tick medicine?
This is an engorged (fully fed) female tick. Do you have any pets in the house who go outside? At this point in the life stage, the female tick has fully fed and drops off the host to go lay eggs. If you do have pets in the home you should check for more ticks and possible get some flea and tick repellant for them. Ticks can carry a variety of diseases that are transmissible to pets and to humans if the ticks are allowed to feed on them for a certain amount of time.
