Description:
We found this when walking on the beach during low tide at Sullivan's Island Beach in South Carolina. This is the first time we have every seen one of these.
Habitat:
Echinocardium cordatum lives in a permanent burrow buried about 8 cm deep (to 15 cm) in sandy sediments. The species is found from the intertidal to the subtidal and offshore to about 200 m.
Notes:
We enjoyed exploring the beach and found all sorts of interesting things.
