Field Notes

Description:

An amazing little Fly, 3 mm long. I took a picture of it from the top and saw that it had bright red eyes, covering the entire head. When I took a picture from the side, I was shocked at the huge hump on the thorax. I can't imagine what it is for. These are little micro-predators. Family Hybotidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Thank you Mark, Juan and Cindy :) Such an exaggerated hunchback for something so little. Radar Dome sounds good to me.
I wonder what's the purpouse of that pronotum structure
