Description:

tall straight vertically growing shrub; produces long seed pods

Habitat:

spotted on the side of Banana River

Notes:

This picture was taken at midday, so I'm not sure if the flower opens further.

Somewhere along the way I read that it is the flower for which Babar the Elephant showed a particular fondness (just a bit of trivia).

Yes.. you have done it... Its called here in India Yellow Kanchan/Kachanaar (Marathi- पिवळा कांचन) Its Common but now occasional in Western Ghat hills in India. Its deciduous shrub flowering in January.
