Description:
A Javan Ebony Langur family, composed almost of 4 individuals hidden on the trees. Long tail, can size up to 87 centimetres in length while the body is only around 55 centimetres long. Glossy black in colour with a slight brownish tinge on the sides of the body, ‘sideburns’, and legs, the skin of the face, palms and soles is also black. Juveniles are orange in color.
Habitat:
Spotted during a morning walk at Kebun Raya Cibodas, a 80ha area above 1.400 metres high, mix of botanical park with big trees & palms and surrounded by rainforest at the foot of Gene volcano, Java - Indonesia.
Is endemic to the island of Java and surrounding Indonesian islands (Bali, Jawa, Kalimantan, Sumatera) where inhabits the interior and peripheral areas of rainforests. This primate is diurnal and arboreal and Its diet is primarily herbivorous, eating leaves, fruit, flowers, and flower buds, although it also eats insect larvae.

Javan Ebony Langur is also know as Leaf Monkey, the name ‘langur’ means ‘long tail’ in Hindi, is an Old World monkey from the Colobinae subfamily, like other langurs is a social animal, living in groups of around seven individuals, with one or two adult males in the group. Is treated as Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, threats include habitat loss and degradation due to expanding agriculture and human settlements, hunting for food and increasingly for the pet trade, fragmentation, and small isolated populations.
