Field Notes

Description:

small bird with black head, orange throat and yellow breast

Habitat:

fir trees

Notes:

this flock may have been just passing through. They didn't quite look like the goldfinches that I see around here. This flock was definitely together, yet the bird on the left looks like a black-headed grosbeak and the one on the right a western goldfinch. Ideas?

Species ID Suggestions

Thanks for the ID; I kept trying to make them into the same species.
These 2 species can be seen together in my garden right now too in Maple Ridge, BC. Nice photos!
