Field Notes

Description:

Large spiral...the baby leaves can be seen tucked inside.

Habitat:

We were on our way to Chilapata Forest near Jaldapara National Park in Dooars, Alipurduar district, West Bengal, India. The road ahead was being repaired and we had to wait till the job was done. We stolled around and that is when I was close enough to shoot this huge fern head. It was not safe to go into the lush vegetation during the monsoons so I just clicked from the safety of the highway.

Notes:

Later, I saw the normal sized fernheads that are collected and eaten as greens. The size difference was massive.
