Field Notes

Description:

Pentatomidae; Pentatominae; Eysarcorini; Eysarcoris sp. Wikipedia's article on Eysarcoris is not very helpful because it lists 9 species in the Eysarcoris Genus, but there is only one picture shown and it does not match my specimen. Also there is no distribution information. I visited numerous other sites including inaturalist.org which looks promising, but they are almost exactly opposite to Wiki. They have several pictures which look very much like mine, but they have several different names. So I will do some more digging and provide a better ID for this spotting as soon as I can.

Habitat:

Spotted in our front garden on the leaf of a Pawpaw (Carica papaya). I have never seen an Eysarcoris bug on this plant and I suspect that it has come in from the surrounding area to feast on our Eggplants (Solanum melongena) which are in the vegetable plot in the backyard. It may just have stopped to find its bearings, on the way.
