Field Notes

Description:

A solitary hippo eyeing us in our boat. After the elephant, the hippotamus is the largest land mammal.

Habitat:

freshwater, semi aquatic

Notes:

I spotted this hippo in Loango National Park on the coast of Gabon. This is not the usual scene of many hippos together in a freshwater lake or river that you see in the rest of Africa. This was very close to the coast and rainforest.
