Field Notes

Description:

Long, thin snake about four feet in length.

Habitat:

Pine forest.

Notes:

As I was leaving Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, I saw a wild black racer 'blocking' the trail to my car. He was about four feet in length, and he was happily resting along the gravel covered path. I stayed still for a fee moments so I could observe him. Then I apologized for asking him to move off the path so I could walk by, and when I began to move towards him he slowly slithered into the undergrowth and pine needles.

How kind of you to ask him to move so you could pass :)
