Description:

Poet's daffodil in the wild, a spring favorite in the Swiss Prealps.

Habitat:

Mid-altitude European mountain fields

Notes:

The beautiful narcissus poeticus is sadly in decline in the Swiss Prealps due to agricultural practices and reforestation. Coordinated efforts between volunteers and farmers aim at conserving narcissus fields.

My sister has picture of Andorran Poets Daffodils, I invited her to join, hopefully she will do and share them with you.

How interesting Saly! Good to know Andorra gets a lot of them. Here they're also known as "la neige de mai" (May snow). Those fields are now protected.

Hey, that is our national flower in The Principality of Andorra! In catalan, we call it "grandalla" and during 2 or 3 weeks it's full of them all over the country. The fields become white. They are very smelly and so beautifull. Great to see there are some in Switzerland too.

Thanks Sarah and Monkey-mind! I'm lucky to be in an area where there are still quite a few. Reforestation and dairy farming are their main enemies. When I was a child we would pick them up; these days it's only photos!

oh they are sooo rare - sadly. I remember, when I was a child, my granny used to buy them in the market. Their scent is amazing
