Field Notes

Description:

Winter Flounder; also known as Black-back Flounder. Due to it's darker coloration, most likely a young adult.

Habitat:

Near-shore (shallow-water).
Distribution extends off the coast of Labrador, Canada, down to Georgia, U.S., but most abundant from the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the Chesapeake Bay.

Photo taken while scuba diving off of Plymouth Beach, Plymouth, Massachusetts, U.S..
