Field Notes

Description:

The midnight snapper is a voracious coral reef predator. Often seen in large hunting groups together with other snapper species of similar size. Beautiful fish that appears quite curious towards divers.

Notes:

The second picture shows a juvenile midnight snapper in the middle of a shoal of damselfish. The juveniles commonly exhibit this behaviour. Shoaling is a well known way for fish to avoid predation.

They are stunning fish! I wish I had a better shot - this doesn't do it justice..
The pattern in the face is very pretty.
