Description:

very sturdy and durable bird nest with 2 side by side entrances, one for male, one for female.

Habitat:

tree in the backwaters of Kerala.

Notes:

I spotted this in the backwaters while cruising on a houseboat for 24 hours.

Dan have Bird spottings from South India...? to assign in Birds of Western ghats...
I observed that such nests mostly built in snake prone area. So naturally weavers make these nests where snakes can not reach easily.
The sharp top mostly seen in nests built on Palm trees. On other trees top is much thick.
Yes, I know I'm holding it upside down. I did that just to get a picture of the entrances. Thanks for the info. I do think it is a baya weaver nest.
You actually hold it upside down. two entries are usually seen in weaver birds homes. One entry for male and another for female. One of them search food and another protecting nest. Baya Weaver it may be.
It looks heart shaped. Love birds? haha, sorry it's been a long week with 6 and 7 year olds.
