yes it is ! Pimelia sp. !
To end the confusing discussion: This is a Pimelia sp. (Tenebrionidae). Species ID may be possible, but not for me. Sicily should not have more than a handful species. Boris
I do not think it is a stag beetle. The antenna are different. The antenna of a stag beetle (female) look like a brush at the end. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stag_beetle Maybe it is an "Amara similata" (german webpage: http://www.insektenbox.de/kaefer/amasim.htm)
May be female stag beetle..I agree its not Dung..
monkey-mind: you're right - it's not that one. Ashish: I do not think it is a Dung Beetle.... the head and the body shape are different. This Beetle is very common here in Sicily, we just call it black beetle.
Its almost like Dung Beetle.
I saw that beetle in disney´s the desert lives - it was the "volkswagen" type beetle, that has to run to stay cool
