Masked frog
Smilisca phaeota
8.47344, -83.5943
Field Notes
Description:
A couple of days ago Yasser spotted a golden colored frog in Costa Rica. I realized I had a very similar looking frog in my backlog of images from Costa Rica: identical eye marking and banding on the legs. Gordon Dietzman suggested Smilisca phaeota as an ID. They display a variety of color variations; for instance the one pictured on the Costa Rican INBio site is green on the upper body parts:

Habitat:
Tropical rainforest. This one was hugging a water tap at the Corcovado Tent Lodge, Corcovado National Park.
