Field Notes

Habitat:

These Black Stink Bugs were spotted, in our vegetable plot, on String Beans (Vigna unguiculata) locally called Sitaw, Plant information from http://www.stuartxchange.org/Sitaw.....

Notes:

Plataspidae; Plataspinae; Coptosoma variegatum. This Black Stink Bug has been difficult to identify and I am not entirely sure that my identification is correct. There are spottings, in the Philippines by arne.roysland - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1120333854... and Francis Flow - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/2060408668... but the whitish speckles (on the dorsum of their specimens) do not seem to be so big and plentiful as those on my specimens. I have not seen any pictures online which are unequivocally like the photos shown here. When we have String Bean plants which are dying back, after the beans have been harvested, these bugs always appear in great numbers, but the photos, which I see online, are usually solitary specimens. I just don't feel "comfortable" with my I.D. Any help would be appreciated.
