Description:

Hiking down the Window Trail in Big Bend National Park we saw this guy making its way across the trail. We stopped to get a better look so the snake moved into the defensive position. When it realized we weren't a threat it went on its merry way, but it still wasn't very happy that we had stopped to stare, continuing to rattle its tail as it moved off.

Habitat:

Rocky dry creek bed

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

The black-tails in Texas were recently split from C. molossus and are now called the ornate black-tailed rattlesnake, C. ornatus. What is referred to as C. molossus now is only in NM and AZ
