Field Notes

Description:

A ladybird larva pupated and this pale yellow insect emerged. Her thorax already sporting colors, the elytra slowly grew spots before my very eyes. There are about four hours between the first and last shots and color is not yet full. Pupal duration was ten days.

Habitat:

found on Acacia, of course.

Notes:

Here is the mature adult - 20 spotted ladybird beetle.

Thanks Cindy. The adult beetle never gained its full strength orange colors for some reason. This seems to happen for some insect species that are grown in captivity even though this was the case only for the pupal stage.
