Field Notes

Description:

Unusual green and black weevil, 1 cm long. It has a short, bulbous snout. Family Curculionidae.

Habitat:

Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.

This, in any case, belongs in Curculionidae proper (antennae elbowed)
Thank you thaptor, I am so curious also. This one has the same weird short bulbous snout, but is a much smaller weevil: (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/16445344/fullscreen).
I am very curious what this turns out to be. Have already seen two alike on NaturaLista - my feeling is this weevils are only short-nosed, not Broad-nosed (= subfam. Entiminae); may be a Cocoon weevil (Hyperinae), or somthing else . . .
