Field Notes

Description:

The rocks that have a lot of water on them have a slime layer of green plant material growing on them. It's moss-like and very slippery. It is a bright green color to brown, but all of it is slippery.

Habitat:

It grows only up to the high tide line, so the grass/moss can handle up to half of the time out of the water, and as little as half the time under the salt water. As the tides go in and out, the brackish water from the creeks, bayous, and less salt water of the bay mix with the salt water of the Gulf of Mexico.

Notes:

This picture was taken before the oil spill. The Destin Pass was heavily boomed to keep out the oil.
