Field Notes

Description:

A red-tailed hawk taking off with a carcass of a small mammal (field mouse?). The nictitating membrane of the eye is apparent in the photo.

Habitat:

A mixture of forest and field, with high steeped headlands or trees that may be used as perches.

Notes:

This photo was taken at the Sachuest Point Wildlife Refuge in Middletown, Rhode Island, U. S., using a Canon Rebel Xsi at the long end of a 70 - 300 mm lens.

I felt this bird caught small bird as seen in second picture. If all three are of same bird. Nice action..!!
