Field Notes

Description:

about 1 cm long bug, with red shard and 2 black dots

Habitat:

garden

Notes:

These bugs let their eggs fall near ant hill, the ants carry the eggs to their nest, the larvas live among the ants, eat ant larvas, or anything else they can find. They protect themselves, by building a scat cover, so the ants ignore them.

is this a similar creature? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6416590
I think this looks more like Clytra laeviscula, it has wider dark spots on the wings than the quadripunctata. Have a look: http://www.ginkgo-web.de/streifzug/clytra/clytra.htm The one I spotted has smaller spots. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6325473
