Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized bird with long tapered tail, red vent and dark crest. White cheeks and throat and red eyes. Small red whisker under the eyes. Bill is medium length and thickness. Unmistakeble call and song. Juvenile lack the red whiskered patch and the vent is reddish orange.

Habitat:

These birds here are enjoying the botanical gardens with many trees they are attracted to.

Notes:

Native bird of India,China to northern Malaya. These birds were introduced in areas of Florida, California and Hawaii. These in California are found mostly a small area of Pasadena, Arcadia areas.
