Field Notes

Description:

Creamy white with a light brown spot on top. started at jelly bean sized, yellowish oblongs I thought were seed droppings from the frondy plant it's under. 4-5 hrs later, mushroomed-up! Cluster about 6" by 5", the heads appear to be fusing. US quarter for scale. *Next morning, base of head billowed out to show slightly jagged edge, as if gills are longer than head.

Habitat:

Sod grass, next to black garden mulch, under young palm?frond tree. Often sprinklers, no rain for over a week.
