Notes:

I was trying to capture a hummingbird, but it was quite impossible. So let's try with the plant.

I couldn't find the RAW file, I guess I deleted :(
Can you crop photo 2 a little - it's a lovely shot with the hummingbird peeping over the flower!
Haha thank you guys! Still impossible for me to catch a hummingbird!
I love the colours!! And really beautiful with that hummingbird faded in the background..
aaa, no había visto que hasta colibrí hay en la foto, buena captura!
Jaja noo! Mira al colibrí en el fondo!
Carolina, creo que esta foto está al reves :)
Great photo! I have a Banana tree, they have this large flower then a stalk with tiny flowers comes out and little bananas will form by fall! They are sweet and delicious! I have an old photo somewhere I will look for when I get some time.
Ditto Heather, kudos to Project Noah. This site rekindled my love for nature and photography and refreshing my memory of my Forestry 101 learnings from college :D Now for the banana, I've seen them here being cultivated not as crops but as decor for their pink fruits. Usually planted in huge pots in urban gardens.
I have learned so much from Project Noah and I've only been on here for a few weeks. I think the site is accomplishing its mission. I've even dug out and charged up my "big" camera and find myself taking more pictures and planning mini-trips with my camera in tow.
I simply had no idea that hummingbirds came to Banana plants. Noah has educated me. I can see your Hummingbird. I think it was a good try!
that's a banana heart as we literally call it in the philippines.. I love it with coconut milk, ginger, tomatoes, vinegar, and onions.. yum!
Ian you are right. I first time see a erect flower in Banana plant. May not exposed to American species. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musa_velutina
Maybe! But there are some other red bananas that look really similar...
probably a Musa velutina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Musa_velutina1.jpg
You know Ashish, I think its definitely a banana tree.
This type of flower find mostly in Plants under Genus-Ensete

Isn't this matching with your spotting..? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:M._acuminata_x_balbisiana.JPG
So it's not a banana flower, because the bird will be upside down!
Banana flowers never been erect, they are Peduncle in hanging or horizontal.
No Ashish, they are no rotated. I was trying every angle he was flying to.
Haha me too, he was absorbing something from the plant and he was moving his wings soo fast, it looked like a hummingbird.
Pictures must be rotated at left side.
Definite a kind of banana tree. Bird must be Humming bird.
