Description:

Milkweed beetle is orange-red and black It has long proboscis with wings which cover the abdomen.

Habitat:

Found in the tall grass during an insect sweep activity at the Tamarac Visitor Center.

Notes:

Milkweed beetles are usually found in small groups on milkweed plants, often on the underside of the leaves. They have few predators because they feed on the sap of milkweed plants which have a toxic compound.
