Brittle star
Ophiothrix fragilis

Field Notes
Description:
The fine-spined brittle star has its entire body covered with long spines, which can take on a highly variable coloration (usually shades of brown and gray). It can measure up to 12 cm. It is the most abundant, both on soft and hard bottoms, up to 100 meters deep. It feeds on the particles that it captures with the ambulacral system. Did you know that it can live up to 10 years?
Habitat:
On the lower smooth face of a stone, in the breaker of a rocky area of a coastline that alternates dunes with volcanic rocks.
When you lift a stone there is always something interesting, but whatever it is, if it can move it will run to find the shadow.
