Description:

this red berry-like fruit maybe studded on a sort of ball.. it looked like the rest of its side had dried out and fallen off.. I just think it looked disproportioned

i found this in a trail, but it seemed like this was the only one there...

Species ID Suggestions

The leaves look similar to those of the bird-of-paradise, but the fruits say otherwise. The way the leaf blades are attached to their petioles (stalks) tells me this could be related to the Arrowroot plant (Family Marantaceae). You should find something there.
