Description:
These are one of the smaller doves found in Ecuador (± 16 cm). The first two photos are of the male: blue-gray head and darker gray body. The last two are of the female: dark brown head and brownish gray body. They both have several rows of black spots on the wings. The beak is dark and the feet are flesh colored.
Habitat:
These were seen in the front yard of a friend in Guayaquil. They were obviously city birds, not very afraid of people.
Notes:
These little doves were really fun to watch as they just appeared like miniatures compared to what I am used to. They were running around, pestering each other (I suspect they were brother and sister :-). I spent a lot of time just watching them. The other subspecies, Colomina buckleyi dorsti is found further south in the upper Marañón Valley in NW Peru.
