Field Notes

Description:

The flower is white or pinkish-white, two to three centimeters in diameter, with five sepals, five petals and numerous stamens. Fruits in a few weeks!

Habitat:

Grows almost everywhere in the northern hemisphere except in the deserts.

Notes:

Wild blackberries, like their cultivated relatives, grow as thorny canes, some trailing, others more or less erect. There seem to be 2 subspecies in my area: one with entirely white flowers, and the one with a tinge of pink. Fruits are slightly different. This could also result from hybridisation with cultivated species.
