Field Notes

Description:

The Male Fern or Common Male Fern is, as the name suggests, a common fern species in the northern hemisphere.

Habitat:

Woodland

Notes:

In Norway it is called snake-fern which has led to the misconception that this non-flowering plant attracts snakes. This is probably a mis-translation from its old english name worm-fern, given to this plant as it was used in the past to get rid of tapeworms.

Thanks for the expertise input craigwilliams :)
Lovely photos. Not sure about 'the commonest' in the Northern Hemisphere though. I would have thought that honor would go to Pteridium aquilinum, hands down.
