Field Notes

Description:

Small long jawed orb weaver. Webs are fairly large, round, and symmetrical. Legs a pale yellow-green with black bands. Abdomens a silvery yellow color with black markings (they look like the shape of a "peace" sign to me). Orange markings around spinnerets.

Notes:

I get several of these in my yard every year, and they are a real favorite of mine. Their Latin name "venusta" means "beautiful". How very appropriate for such a lovely little spider! Photos really don't do justice to their beautiful metallic markings.
