Field Notes

Description:

Black beetle the buried its head and raised it's rear end when I approached it, possible about to spray.

Notes:

I've been told by a local it is a "stink bug" but I expect there are quite a few insects that get called that

Darkling Beetle

Eleodes sp.

Look up Darkling Beetle. I think you might find a more accurate ID in that group of beetles and they are sometimes called stink bugs.
