Description:

This sea grass was in the Destin Pass when this picture was taken. Depending on the tides, the grass is host to all sorts of marine life, including snorklers and fishermen.

Habitat:

underwater in the Destin Pass which is Bay saltwater and Gulf of Mexico salt water mixing depending on the tides.

Notes:

The grass is the dark place in the pictures. This picture was taken prior to the Gulf Coast Oil Spill. When the spill occurred, they put up booms all around this area to keep oil out of the grasses.

The dark spots in the water are NOT oil. The dark spots are sea grass that grows or settles to the bottom of the sandy bottom. Some will strand up and grow towards the surface but the grass never really reaches the top. The seagrass seems to grow more horizontally than vertically in the water.

Well I will be getting some pictures from my dad because he works on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico right there in Destin, FL. I also take pictures down there several times a year. Most of my best pictures on this computer are from before the Oil Spill. I will move to my other photo albums (on disks) after I finish uploading from this machine.
