Field Notes

Description:

Seen imbibing minerals from dung (?monkey poo) with several other forest butterflies.

Habitat:

Seen on a small path, quite deep in pre-montane tropical forest.

Last photo shows the habitat, quite near this small stream.

Notes:

Looking at this one again Leuba, I'm not sure how exact the markings should be. This one only seems to have 1 tail. Maybe the other one broke off. Anyway I'll call it your suggestion and see if I get any response from folks out there.

Thinking this could be charaxes brutus natalensis also, if the labelling is correct...

Species ID Suggestions

thanks martin for having a look through my collection and ID-ing a few. Need someone familiar with African butterflies, Uganda specifically!
Hahaha yes Leuba, quite a few flies! Some of the photos show them quite clearly. Mostly they were blue with red eyes. Even the flies were pretty! I have one to upload when I've uploaded all the butterflies. Getting close now!
It is certainly beautiful Pam. Nice you got the species ID. I could see photos of the orange winged one in a blog on Ugandan butterflies but sadly no name ! I see now that there are a few flies as well !
thanks Hema. I agree...
colors nd pattern are superb!
thanks MartinL... Do you have time to look at the other ones?
I agree with brutus. It is the common one. C. druceanus is close, and I suppose C. castor but I confidently agree with you.
Thinking this could be charaxes brutus natalensis also, if the labelling is correct. Any opinions? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/File:Charaxes_brutus_natalensis.jpg http://en.butterflycorner.net/Charaxes-brutus-White-Barred-Charaxes.511.0.html
