All colors were present..allthough this one came out best..there were whites and reds..

Habitat:

Along the shore path from Bar Harbor towards the South side of town..

Great! I've seen it in Maine. I think that people collect the fruits (hips) to make Rose Hip tea.

I think what you have is Rosa rubiginosa, which is a species of Rose. Rose of Sharon is in the hibuscus family. Check it out.
