Monarch butterfly
Danaus plexippus
14.5534, -90.7353
Field Notes
Description:
We were so lucky to presence the birth of a new monarch butterfly and how she injected lympha in her wings (best way I can explain it) until they were ready to fly..magical moment!
As you can see the butterfly is orange with a black stripped pattern and white dots. Catterpillar also shown in one of the pictures of this series.
Habitat:
Central and North America. This one was found in a butterfly nursery in the tropical rainforests of Guatemala but I guess later they probably migrate North. I know these butterflies are, for example, very common in California.
Notes:
My friend Victor Diaz and I switched as photographers for this nice sighting :-)
