Field Notes

Description:

These tiny (top of a sewing pin) brown or orange mushroom-like things are growing in the potting soil in my veggie garden. These are under a drip line. They do not seem to be connected or webbed in any way to each other.

Yea, me neither. I did a bunch of searches online and came up blank.
I wish I did. I looked through the Audubon field guide to N. American mushrooms and searched a bit online, but no luck, sorry.
I think it just means there is a lot of moisture and perfect growing conditions for this species.
Dan, I have learned something then. I hope that is not a bad fungus for the plants. They seem to be doing ok.
Mushrooms are just the fruiting body of a fungus. They aren't connected about ground. They all come from the underground mycelium, which can be large and long lived.
When the rain began to fall, I saw a dusty substance fill the air around these brown spore things. They are gone now.
