Field Notes

Description:

Two photos, one of a green pine cone and one of the dried "spent" cones.

Habitat:

Acadia National Park

Notes:

The pine cone when ready to release the seeds, literally explodes with the heat of the summer sun and the seeds get far enough from the parent tree to get a decent chance of germination in a sunny spot away..
