Description:
This large moth is often mistaken for a Sphinx moth. Mottled gray coloration, wings slightly translucent. Heavy bodied and a clumsy flier. Larvae bore into host trees, Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) and other deciduous trees.
Habitat:
Temperate forest. Cedar Point County Park, NY.
Notes:
We see these every year at this park.
