Field Notes

Notes:

This is the second one of these spiders I have found in my house. I've found both dead. The first was found dead & dried out under the washing machine last year. I found this one today also dead in a spare bedroom. One of its legs is missing which worries me that our cats might have been playing with it. It was still pliable enough for me to uncurl it's legs with a toothpick & get some decent photos. It looks like a female to me. It has a total of 8 eyes. The mandibles are very pronounced & large. The body size is approximately 3/4 of an inch. Wondering if maybe its a wolf spider? Should I be worried?

I'm not a spider expert, but that does look like a wolf spider (Family Lycosidae). I run into many of them at my mom's house in Southern California. Nothing to worry about as they consume insects around the house and usually stay out of sight.
