Field Notes

Description:

This is a succulent. It is such a prolific flowerer, when the blooms are open, they cover about 90% of the leaves. The flowers close up when the light drops or if the plant s low on water. So if you come across one of these during the day and the flowers are not opened, it might need water.

Habitat:

Spreading at each node that touches dirt. It gets less than 6 inches tall. It is evergreen but the flower is not out in the winter.

Notes:

This patch of the ice plant is growing in my front yard. It is spreading a lot this year. I changed settings on the camera between the two shots. The first picture is what it looks like when the sun is setting as far as flower color goes.
