Field Notes

Description:

Colour varies, as in these two, usually a grey brown but may be golden or grey black within the same environment.
Broad head with large nose.
Body up to 1.1m

Habitat:

Dry & wet forest, woodland & Coastal Heath.

Notes:

Common wombats are marsupials which dig & live in burrows & give birth to a single young.
Like their closest relatives the koala, wombats have a backward facing pouch to protect the young when digging/climbing.
They're herbivorous, essentially eating roots & leaves, & their teeth grow in response to use not unlike rodents.
