Description:

This tree was at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. It had what looked like neat flower buds forming on each of the branch ends.

Yeah, I think I will do that. It was a pretty bud. It might be in bloom now, a week later and an awesome lightening/hail/rain storm later.
Try contacting a horticulturalist at the botanical gardens, they ought to know what it is.
Anna, I looked up Lagerstroemia and it says that's commonly called Crape Myrtle. So I don't really know. The Crape Myrtles here are already bloomed.
